Let's Begin

What is Thoroughbreds?

Thoroughbreds is an independent publication exploring the intersection of identity, performance, and influence. The magazine publishes a mix of interviews, original reporting, cultural commentary, and curated lists/links.

What does Thoroughbreds cover?

Well, first of all, Thoroughbreds is not a news source. We also don't cover horse racing or anything in the competitive horse world (but we love horses).

Interviews are our bread and butter, and in those we'll talk about... whatever our subjects want. Because they're asking the questions here.

Outside of interviews, here is a (non-exhaustive) list of some topics we discuss:

  • How does social media reshape the way we behave, speak, or think? What influence does this have on our beliefs?

  • How do people become who they say they are?

  • Can we ever be our true, authentic selves when sincerity is turned into a monetised performance?

  • How does the proliferation of algorithm-suggested content shape our perception of what's worth our time?

  • What does it mean to be a tastemaker in modern times? Can AI have taste?

  • How does reputation function as a form of currency?

  • What does true "transparency" look like? When does it cross over into another branding gimmick?

We also like to talk about celebrity, power, influence, and humanity (in the kindness sense as much as the mankind one). These topics are liable to change and evolve as we grow, and we'll do our best to update this list when they do.

Who writes for Thoroughbreds?

A mix of editors, journalists, and invited contributors. Specifically, Nicole, Florence, Alex, Kat, and Noa.

How often do you publish?

We publish 4 issues a year. One of those is always a special edition, which means it's digital-first with limited collector's copies available.

Each issue will be a complete collection of the season, including new and exclusive content. We also publish online and in our newsletters throughout the year, when we have something to say and when it’s worth your attention.

Can I pitch something?

Certainly. Take a look at submissions and our interviews page.

Will you make me a mixtape?
